From culture to conversation - ways to give structure to English conversation classes

in Kooperation mit Oxford University Press

In this interactive workshop we will look at ways to give structure to conversation classes and get participants talking, listening, thinking and collaborating.

When it comes to conversation; culture and literature are fascinating areas to explore as they give English language learners a deeper knowledge and understanding of ways of life in English-speaking countries. Using topics from culture and literature, we will investigate how learners can develop their language and extend their vocabulary to express themselves more clearly. We will also discover how we, as teachers, can give our students the communication skills and confidence to interact with others in a meaningful way. Examples will be taken from the Oxford University Press “Headway Culture and Literature Companion”; however, the principles and activity types that we will cover are adaptable to a wide range of different topics and materials.

Teachers attending the workshop will be able to order a free copy of the new Headway Culture and Literature Companion at a level of their choice. Other Oxford University Press ELT books will be on display.

The workshop will be given by Lis Winterwerb-Cossons, ELT consultant, Oxford University Press
